Fins Swimming Club Mission Statement
Inspiring the community to be safe, healthy & love life in the water

Ben Fogle, TV presenter and Silver Award holder thinks volunteering is a great thing to get involved in:
“Employers and universities recognise the value of having people who have a life away from their job. This is where the DofE comes in, it’s now become the leading Award for young people to demonstrate they have interests outside of everyday life. Volunteering gives you a chance to make a difference to others and to their community. I believe that you’ll find your voluntary work will increase your confidence and self-esteem and give you new skills. I would advise you all to embrace volunteering opportunities; it’s a great way to collect extra experience that could give you the edge at a college, university or job interview.”

Students who are interested in volunteering with Fins Swimming Club should contact us directly.

Work Experience

Many students from local schools have gained their Work Experience with Fins Swimming Club.

Work experience provides an opportunity for young people in full time education to gain an insight
into the world of work, its disciplines and challenges.

Work experience may be defined as “a placement on an employer’s premises in which a student
carries out a range of tasks or duties, more or less as would an employee,
but with an emphasis on the learning aspects of the experience”.

It can also enhance your employ-ability by:

  • Giving you experience of how to apply for a post
  • Increasing your confidence, self-esteem and motivation to succeed
  • Helping you to develop positive attitudes to work and lifelong learning
  • Providing you with opportunities to practice key skills for adult working life
  • Supporting any projects, assignments and other work you are undertaking as part of a subject or course
Fins Swimming Club values the importance of work experience and welcomes applications.

The length of placement can vary to suit the needs of applicants but will often be for one working week. However, we have had students work for two weeks due to their course requirements.
Working hours are normally 9.00 am – 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday but can be more
flexible to maximise their working experience.

Students may either apply to us through their school or by directly contacting us.
