With the recent introduction of a Junior Academy for those who have achieved Stage 4 and above, our Juniors are inspired by the race night and have many exciting plans already!
Twice a year, our swimmers have the opportunity to join us for a Distance Day where they are able to come along to swim as far as they can and earn an award for various distances. This can be anywhere between 5 and 5,000 metres!
Swimmers are encouraged to obtain sponsorship for the distance that they achieve and the money raised is donated to charity. This time, we have been raising funds for two charities which are very close to the hearts of one of our Fins’ families. The two chosen charities are MIND and the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance Trust. We are raising money for these two charities in loving memory of James Garrad, a Fins swimmer and Pool Helper who sadly passed away earlier this year. James’ family and friends have been raising money for these two charities, one in support of those living with mental health issues, and the other in support of a charity James was very involved with. We feel very honoured to be able to raise funds to support the incredible work these two charities do!
We would like to say a huge well done and thank you to all those who have been involved! So far we have raised over £300 with sponsorship still coming in, that’s an incredible amount of support!
Our next Distance Day will be held in the end of May with details to follow nearer the time for anyone interested in taking part.
Fins Swimming Club is one of few private swimming centres in the country which is an Accredited Teacher Training Centre. We have achieved this status by working closely with The Institute of Swimming (IOS). Not only do we provide first class swimming lessons the training is also instrumental in further developing our staff.
The swimmers at our October Half Term intensive swimming course all showed such incredible effort and progress, our teachers have been amazed by all of you! Our teachers and swimmers love to take advantage of the opportunity to swim each day of the week as this repetition can really encourage swimmers, particularly in an aspect they have been struggling with.
For instance, we had a 6 year old working towards his Stage 1, the last element he has been working on is his push and glide. As this needs to be a maintained streamlined body position it can sometimes take a little while to perfect, with the extra help of a week’s intensive swimming this particular swimmer has now managed to pass his Stage 1 in the first lesson back after Half Term!
Our next intensive swimming course will be over the February Half Term running from Monday the 12th - Friday the 16th. We are running an Early Bird Special until the 15th of December with our group lessons costing only £21 for the week! The course will be held at Kings International College and classes will run for 30 minutes between 9:30am and 11am. Our 1-1 lessons are also available to book now, costing £90 for the week, these lessons will run from 8am – 9:30am and 1pm until 4pm.
