How to phone for help

You don’t need any money or credit on your mobile to phone for help, just dial 999 or 112. The operator will ask you which service you want – ask for the police (or the coastguard if you’re at the seaside).

The police or the coastguard will ask you:

  • What has happened and where the trouble is
  • If anyone is able to help until the emergency services can get there
  • Your name and the number you are calling from
